SUMMARY:March Quilt Show
DESCRIPTION:The Roseau County Museum and the Roseau Public Library are inviting community members from across Roseau County to loan quilts and small quilted projects for a Quilt Showcase taking place in March in recognition of Women’s History Month. Quilts and quilted items may be dropped off at the Roseau County Museum through February 27 during regular hours. Contributors will be asked to share brief background information about their piece. Full exhibit details\, guidelines\, and schedules are available on the Museum’s website. \nThe Quilt Showcase will open on March 7 with a special program at the Museum featuring Jean Wakely\, public speaker\, storyteller\, author\, and curator of the Story Quilt Project. Wakely’s presentation brings quilt stories to life\, encouraging audiences to laugh\, reflect\, and reconnect with personal and historical memories through a family-friendly\, interactive program. \nWhat We’re Seeking\n\n\nQuilts and small quilted projects of all styles and eras \n\n\nItems may be loaned for display for the month of March \n\n\nContributors are asked to provide any known information about their piece\, such as the maker\, quilter\, history\, or personal meaning \n\n\nDisplay Plan\n\n\nLarger quilts will be displayed at the Roseau County Museum \n\n\nSmaller pieces will be featured at the Roseau Public Library \n\n\nThe Library is also seeking: \n\n\nA hands-on touch table (fabric\, batting\, etc.) for children \n\n\nA “seek-and-find” quilt designed for young visitors \n\n\n\n\nImportant Dates\n\n\nDrop-off deadline: February 27 (Museum\, during regular hours) \n\n\nExhibit runs: March \n\n\nOpening event: March 7 \n\n\nQuestions contact the museum at 218-463-1918.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an afternoon of conversation\, a delightful light meal\, and a selection of fine teas while Nikki Rajala tells the story of \n  \n \nWomen in the Fur Trade: (There Were Some??) \nThough Native American women were rarely shown in paintings or named in the journals\, they were\nvital partners in the French-Canadian fur trade. Instead of paddling or portaging\, women produced food\n(for an extra 4-8 mouths at a local fur post\, during the hungry season!)\, sewed clothing\, processed pelts\,\nhealed with medicinal herbs\, made birch bark canoes — and more\, making trade possible.\nThis presentation highlights the daily contributions of Native American women as well as a few\nwho chose unique roles — as interpreters\, guides for expeditions\, fostering peace among tribes; one took\nover the trade when her husband was murdered. After a Métis colony was established and a second one by\nLord Selkirk\, a few European women began traveling west\, including the Grey Nuns. Known as the first Singing Ranger in the National Park Service and an Outreach Artist for the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Service\, Maguire has spent years collecting and sharing stories through music. \nThis performance focuses on the people who built and sustained communities across rural America\, farmers\, small business owners\, wilderness preservers\, and working families. Through a mix of original songs and familiar favorites\, Maguire connects audiences to the shared experiences that shaped the country. \nThe program includes well-known songs such as “Red River Valley\,” along with others from the American folk tradition\, inviting the audience to listen\, reflect\, and at times sing along. Choose the one that interests you most and spend the midday learning a new skill while creating something of your own. \nThe Art of Micromosaics – with Kathy Sanders\nMicromosaics are intricate artworks made from thousands of tiny pieces of glass enamel carefully arranged to create detailed images. Kathy will guide participants through color selection\, layout\, and technique as you design a floral micromosaic pendant. This class is perfect for beginners and experienced makers alike\, ages 15 and up. Participants will leave with a beautiful\, one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. \nCreative Pyrography (Woodburning) – with Les Sanders\nDiscover the art of woodburning in this hands-on pyrography class. DESCRIPTION:The Roseau County Historical Society’s Annual Meeting on April 27 from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the Roseau City Center. The evening will include a presentation by storyteller and historian Bill Vossler\, titled “Why Stories Matter\,” that will pry open the world of stories to reveal the wonders within. In the program\, Vossler explores why storytelling has always been important to people\, beginning with the earliest stories found on ancient cave walls and moving through the different forms stories can take. \nThe evening will open with a meal\, followed by a brief business meeting and presentation. $20 suggested donation for an adult meal at the door. Everyone welcome. \nRSVP is suggested to ensure meal availability. SIGN UP HERE\n  \n \nBill has written full-time for 43 years\, publishing at least 4\,000 stories — mostly non-fiction. Many are his own\, but also include features he wrote\, telling other people’s stories for magazine articles in Saturday Evening Post\, Farm Collector\, Toy Farmer\, Woman’s World\, Hemispheres\, and 231 other magazines.
