May 5 & 12, 2019, The story I’ll be sharing today was written for a Roseau Elementary School assignment in the 4th grade class of teacher Sara Olson in 2006. The author was Mary Przekwas, and she wrote about someone she admired, her grandmother. I think it’s a good story to read leading up to Mother’s Day.
Marjorie Delores Zak was born on September 10, 1928, to Ann and Frank Zak.
May 19, 2019 Rudy Billberg, local pilot and historian, was a prolific writer. This story is one that he wrote many years ago.
At the turn of the 20th Century, a lone man walked into the Roseau Valley. He bore himself with great dignity. His speech was flawless. He said he had been a college classmate of Theodore Roosevelt. His name was Albert Monroe Graves.
Among his first ventures in the village of Roseau was the operation of a hotel. He called it the Yankee Hotel. This is probably the reason that he was known as Yankee Graves.
May 26, 2019 In a 1993 edition of Roseau Times-Region, Rudy Billberg had contributed a story called “Popple Island was once Buried Under Ice”. I’ll read it to you now.
