Roseau County Historical Society Annual Fund Drive Information
2023-2024 FUND DRIVE
Your donations to the 2023-24 fund drive helped secure the “bones” of this shelving project, the beginning core. The second step is to purchase needed archival and storage supplies for added collection preservation. The fund drive will go toward archival supplies, allowing us to protect the collection from damage and preserve it for future generations.
2022-2023 FUND DRIVE
As we continue to build upon our mission, we have become increasingly aware of the need for more storage. Mobile shelving would be the best option for our storage needs. An assessment has been done, and the custom-built units would increase the storage space to sixty percent, allow for anticipated growth, and better protect the artifacts.
This project will be a considerable undertaking, but it is necessary to continue to grow. The project would be funded with state legacy grant monies if approved. However, to help make the grant more sustainable, we plan to offer a cash match. Therefore, we need your help by donating to this year’s fund drive. We secured $13k two years ago for the project and hope to raise another $15,000 to go towards the project’s cash match.
2021-2022 FUND DRIVE
Our goal for the 2022 fund drive is to raise $15,000 to add educational technology components throughout the museum. The project would help add several features to the exhibit area, such as touch screen kiosks where visitors can learn about specific exhibits through movie shorts, photographs, games, and additional historical facts. In addition, we would like to add directional gallery sound domes for specific displays. For example, the nature display could have partridge drumming, water running, and birds chirping, while the Native American display has to drum. We also hope to upgrade the museum’s theater room by creating a more professional movie viewing experience where visitors can walk in and watch short films about Roseau County’s history. We can also create unique programming for many future events.
Looking toward the future as technology progresses, this project enables the Roseau County Museum to share historical information through interactive components helping to increase visitors’ interest and knowledge. It also adds the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum to the exhibits.
2020-2021 FUND DRIVE
Our goal for the 2021 fund drive is to raise $11,000 for new shelving in the storage room. After moving everything around, we have found ourselves very limited on storage space (we were getting short before but now are really packed in tight). Your donation will help us build towards the museum’s future growth and support the preservation and collection of artifacts.
2019-2020 FUND DRIVE
2020 marks the 125th anniversary of Roseau County’s creation and the 93rd anniversary of the establishment of the Roseau County Historical Society. In April 1927, a group of men met to consider forming a county historical society. Steps were then taken to establish the historical society whose purpose would be to collect, preserve, and share the history of Roseau County. The collection of P. O. Fryklund was the basis of the original museum. The society continued to grow the collection and accepted donations related to the history of the county.
Your donation this year will help us to continue sharing the history of Roseau County to the nearly 7,000 yearly visitors. Your support will help touch up older exhibit displays, build new exhibits, and create colorful signage (done in-house) for the new museum design.
2018-2019 FUND DRIVE
As a non-profit organization, we rely on your support for general operating expenses, but also for special programming and events. This year we’ve had several interesting events, including our annual meeting with Michael Meuer, author of Road to Ponemah, ten youth summer programs including “Pioneer Recess,” a co-hosted event with Roseau Women of Today. We partnered with our local Sons of Norway Lodge to bring a well-known author, Candace Simar, to town. We also worked with Roseau Area Arts Association to present a professional theater performance, “Sisters of Swing, the story of the Andrews Sisters”.
The Annual Fund Drive is our biggest fundraising event each year to help meet our yearly budget. It helps us to continue to grow in our mission to collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of the county.
2017-2018 FUND DRIVE
The museum strives to add programming and expand your museum, but with that responsibility our funds become limited. So as each year ends we turn our attention to our budget for the next year and review how we can continue to grow in our mission to collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of the county. To meet our goals, the Annual Fund Drive is our biggest fundraising event each year. Your generous support is also necessary to keep up the day-to-day operations of the historical society and museum.
The Programming Committee met and looked at future programming that we could bring to you, our patrons and county residents. With your help, 2017 could bring some very exciting programs, such as walking tours, cemetery walks, luncheons, musical programs, and picnics, to name a few great ideas.
2016-2017 FUND DRIVE
Our goal for 2016-17 Annual Fund Drive is to raise $9,900. This amount would recover the $2,000 we missed last year and surpass the highest total ever raised by the Roseau County Historical Society Annual Fund Drive.

2015-2016 FUND DRIVE
Your support helps create and tell the history of Roseau County. Through your donations, we have created new floor exhibits and restarted the publication of the newsletter. In 2016, we are changing focus from WWII and rationing to Innovators, Inventors and Entrepreneurs which means new exhibits.
As we continue to grow, our financial needs grow. With your support, we are able to continue creating new exhibits for the museum. There is much to do, and so much potential for adding exhibits to tell the rich history of Roseau County.
2013-14 FUND DRIVE
Again this year funds will provide funds for exhibit design, programming, general
operating funds and collection care.
2012-13 FUND DRIVE
As we grow, our financial needs grow. There are exhibits to design, programs to present, and always a need for general operating funds and collection care.
