A Busy Winter at the Museum – Thank You, Roseau County

The Roseau County Museum, along with our friends at the Roseau Public Library, would like to thank everyone who joined us for events throughout February. Seeing families, neighbors, and new visitors filling our spaces makes these programs worthwhile.

February began with our Teddy Bear Tea, where nearly one hundred guests gathered for an afternoon together. Children and families learned tea party etiquette, adopted teddy bears, and enjoyed crafts, games, and storytime.

The museum also hosted another candle-making class with Section 26, giving participants a chance to create their own candles while spending a relaxed afternoon together.

The following weekend brought our Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, with twenty teams racing to finish the same 500-piece puzzle. The winning team finished in under an hour, and every group completed their puzzle within the two-hour time frame. It was a friendly competition and a fun afternoon for puzzle lovers.

The next day, Shannon and Jesse Westrum led a basket weaving class, where participants learned traditional weaving techniques and left with their own handmade basket.

At the end of February, the museum joined in Flannel & Frost WinterFest. Families stopped in throughout the day for the Frosty Flannel Scavenger Hunt, searching the museum for hidden items while learning a little local history.

Several adventurous visitors also headed to the Pioneer Farm for a snowshoe excursion, exploring the woods while learning how voyageurs traveled during the fur trade era.

That evening, the museum partnered with Go Roseau to host Chad Filley, whose historical humor program kept the crowd laughing. Volunteers provided Scandinavian treats, and Sannes served coffee samples to warm everyone up.

March is already underway. On March 7, the museum and library opened their first Quilt Show. Despite icy roads, visitors came out to hear Jean Wakely’s quilt story presentation and view the display. A remarkable 85 quilted pieces are now on exhibit through March 31.

More events are planned throughout the year. Details can be found on the museum’s website and Facebook page.

If you enjoy programs like these, consider supporting the museum through a membership. Your support helps us continue offering events while preserving and sharing the history of Roseau County.

The Roseau County Museum is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, located in the Roseau City Center.
