Where does the time go? It seems like just a couple months ago we were preparing the first edition of the new newsletter. Now we are to December and looking ahead to events and exhibits in 2016. But first, let me fill you in on our summer. It has been busy with Summer Explorer youth programming , we had 6 make-it programs and scavenger hunts available for youth. Approximately 80 children attended the make-it programs and many came in for the scavenger hunts. This summer was our busiest summer I can remember in my 8 years, with nearly 4,900 visitors June – August!
(Yes, you read that right!) Just imagine if half the visitors dropped a dollar in the donation box.
Another big project was the Veterans Exhibit at the Roseau County Fair. Visitors to our display were amazed by all the names that had been compiled and displayed on a Wall of Honor. We also made posters with Civil and Spanish-American War Veterans, brought out uniforms, military pictures, U.S. and service flags, and artifacts. County resident and volunteer, Carol Tillberg of Badger, continues her work gathering names of Roseau County Veterans.
To date over 6,700 names have been found. We are working on a database with all the veteran information and all veterans have a file in our research center.
As we near 2016 we are working on gathering information for the upcoming traveling exhibit, Innovators, Inventors and Entrepreneurs. If you have any information, pictures, or items that would pertain to people or stories from around Roseau County please let us know and help us tell the story.
As always, we welcome ideas for future articles. Feel free to submit Roseau County stories and pictures to share with other history enthusiasts.
Until next time,
Britt
