As this is the 100th anniversary of the entry of United States into the Great War, which we now refer to as World War I, I’ll be reading stories of some of the 15 Roseau County servicemen who lost their lives in that war.
June 4 Serviceman Evald Ludwig Helstad
June 11 A story of Anton Hodik of Poplar Grove Township from “Pioneers, O Pioneers”, a book published by the Roseau County Historical Society and the Warroad Bicentennial Committee. Anton Hodik came to Roseau County in March of 1901, one of the first settlers in Poplar Grove township. It was not until 1902 or 1903 that the township was organized.
June 18 The Greenbush Tribune dated October 25, 1934, an article appeared about a new band being formed at Pelan. The residents of Pelan were pleasantly entertained on Tuesday evening when a new band, composed of the present Lind band, augmented by players from Karlstad and Greenbush, held its first practice at the Pelan village school house.
June 25 An article from the Greenbush Tribune from November 24, 1916, regarding school consolidation.
